Concentrated liquidity, ranges, and fee tiers explained.
CLMM stands for Concentrated Liquidity Market Maker. Instead of spreading your liquidity across every possible price like a standard AMM, you concentrate it inside a price range you choose. Trades inside that range use your liquidity — so you earn more fees per dollar deposited.
CPMM is set-and-forget: it earns fees at any price and never needs attention, which suits meme coins and new tokens. CLMM earns significantly more per trade inside your range but needs monitoring — if the price leaves your range, your position stops earning until you adjust it. Pick CLMM when you actively manage liquidity.
Full range behaves like a classic AMM (safest, least efficient). A tighter range multiplies fee capture while the price stays inside it. The guided flow previews your range against the current price, and you can open additional positions later to ladder ranges.
No. Neither CLMM nor CPMM pools on Raydium require the old OpenBook market ID (that was a legacy AMM v4 requirement that cost extra SOL). You just need your token, SOL to pair with, and the pool creation fee.
CLMM positions are NFTs, not fungible LP tokens, so the classic LP lock/burn trust signals don’t apply. If your community expects a locked or burned pool, create a CPMM pool instead — it supports both, plus the Burn & Earn rewards.
Concentration amplifies both fees and impermanent loss: inside your range you earn more, but if the price moves hard against you the position converts faster than a full-range pool would. That trade-off is why CLMM suits experienced liquidity providers.
